Unanswered Questions in Stillbirth

We still do not know all the reasons why babies are stillborn late in pregnancy and whether the care parents receive when their baby dies is the right care. This is why the Stillbirth Priority Setting Partnership would like to ask parents, professionals and anyone affected by stillbirth what they think are the important unanswered questions in stillbirth prevention, management, bereavement and postnatal care. What, for instance, do you think we still need to know about:

  • causes of stillbirth?
  • care and information for mothers during pregnancy that might help prevent stillbirth?
  • any new tests that need to be developed to prevent stillbirths?
  • clinical tests to investigate possible causes of death after a stillbirth, including a postmortem that might help us better understand causes of stillbirth?
  • the impact of stillbirth and how a stillbirth is managed in terms of bereavement and post natal care?
  • care in pregnancies after stillbirth?

We are looking for people to submit at least one question, but you can submit as many or as few questions as you like.

Question 1:

Question 2:

By participating in this survey you are agreeing to allow us to publish the questions you identify in the UK Database of Uncertainties about the Effects of Treatments (UK DUETs www.library.nhs.uk/duets). Your name will not be published with the question.

It would be really helpful for our research to know a little more about you, so we would be grateful if you could answer the questions in this section. However, if you would prefer not to, then just leave it blank.

Which one of these categories best describes you? (Please tick all that apply)

Are you?

How old are you?

What is your ethnic background?

Please add further details on the other person(s) views you have included

We will take all the unanswered questions and group them into related topics. We will then check whether these questions have, or have not, been answered by previous research.

Unanswered questions will be gathered together in a stillbirth section within the UK Database of Uncertainties about the Effects of Treatments (UK DUETs www.library.nhs.uk/duets).

We will then ask survey participants to prioritise the unanswered questions relating to stillbirth in a second survey.

Members of the steering group and the wider partnership representing parents and clinicians will then produce the "top ten" research priorities for stillbirth at a face-to-face meeting with group discussions and plenary talks.

Would you like more information about the next stage of the project, where the research questions will be prioritised?

Please enter your contact details. They will be kept confidential and securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
